CE1 students have been studying about Presidents Day, a national holiday commemorating past presidents. This holiday is always on the third Monday in February because many of the famous presidents’ birthdays are in February. Annual traditions to celebrate this holiday include making holiday crafts, visiting museums and making red, white and blue treats. For an extended literature activity, they studied the book If I Were President by Catherine Stier. After discussing the story, they designed their own book cover for the story.

Last week, CE2 students worked on writing an informative paragraph about Rosa Parks, an African American woman who was essential in the fight against segregation. This week, students sent a video of themselves reading their paper. After all videos are collected, they will be sent to our corresponding school in Seattle, Washington to commemorate black history month.
