The module on Native Americans introduced the CP-SI students to the broad concept that indigenous people lived on the continents of North and South America long before Europeans explorers visited and settled in this area. CPs continue to learn that there were many, many different tribes of Native Americans, and that each tribe had its own way of eating, dressing, and living, depending on where they lived. Specific instances in the module were deliberately designated as Turn and Talk opportunities. During these times, CPs took turns to talk to the class to discuss specific things. To stir things up we learned with the help of an online tutorial how to do the POWWOW dance – a cultural dance of the Native Americans. And to bring out the creativity we explored Indigenous Art particularly animal symbols used in the Native American culture such as the use of salmon, bear, raven and eagles.
